RTT vs CBT: which works for anxiety

RTT and CBT are often mentioned in the same breath and they could hardly be more different in method.

Short answer

CBT is a structured, evidence-dense talk protocol that teaches you to identify and restructure anxious thoughts, usually across eight to twenty weekly sessions. RTT is a hypnosis-based method that regresses to the origin of the belief driving the anxiety and re-authors it, usually across one to three sessions plus a recorded reinforcement track. CBT has the deeper research base. RTT is faster when the block is a single encoded belief rather than a thinking habit.

Method

CBT asks what you are thinking, tests the thought against evidence, and builds a repeatable practice. Progress is cumulative and largely conscious, which is a strength: you leave with a transferable skill.

RTT uses hypnosis to reach the scenes where a belief was formed, surfaces the meaning made at the time, and installs a new interpretation while the subconscious is receptive. The recorded track that follows is the consolidation mechanism, played daily for roughly three weeks.

How Dr. Perry uses RTT

In the Rapid Inner Transformation, RTT is one instrument rather than the whole method. It sits alongside clinical hypnotherapy, NLP, and nervous-system regulation, chosen when the presenting pattern traces to a datable imprint. Where a client's difficulty is a genuine thinking habit with no clear origin event, a CBT-style approach is often the better referral.

Common questions

Is RTT better than CBT?
Neither is universally better. RTT tends to be faster where a single encoded belief drives the pattern. CBT has the stronger trial evidence and builds durable skills, which matters for chronic or recurring anxiety.
Can RTT and CBT be combined?
Yes. Clients frequently run RTT to clear the imprint while continuing CBT-style practice with their therapist for the day-to-day skills.
How long does an RTT session last?
Typically ninety minutes to two hours, which is why fewer sessions are needed than a standard fifty-minute weekly format.
